Japan has very firm traditions surrounding a strong work ethic, and this is reflected in how many fathers take paternity leave, in 2018 that was as few as only 6%, and Shinjiro Koizumi’s statement is part of a government drive to increase that number to just 13%. While it might be a good policy, in reality the policy doesn’t go far enough as it does nothing to address the very real workplace etiquette that is the real hurdle keeping Japanese fathers from taking paternity leave.Do you think that paternity leave is such important if what happens at work places is different from what we are told on papers ?
