The elected president of Mali was forced to resign and later arrested together with top leaders in the government in what was termed as a military coup. After the resignation Economic Community of West African States cancelled Mali membership and other sanctions put for the land locked country. The military later said that they have no interest in power but rather help in making reforms. If the government has failed terribly an the military decides to side with the citizens why sanction the country if at all it is for its own good?
