Spotify has been reducing its reliance on the big celebrity signings and expensive original content that have weighed on its bottom line, with the Duchess of Sussex’s podcast among high-profile casualties. Spotify is raising the price of its single-account premium plan for the first time since 2011 and hiking other services as well. The price of a student plan remains unchanged at £5.99. It follows other streaming services which have also increased subscription costs. The premium duo service will increase from $12.99 to $14.99, the family plan from $15.99 to $16.99, and the student plan from $4.99 to $5.99. In its latest financial results, Spotify said that it beat forecasts by adding 36 million monthly active users between April and June, taking the total to 551 million. Of those, 220 million pay for subscriptions. What is your take on the new fees ?
