Trump defends Saudi crown prince over killing of journalist in Washington

The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia visited the US today for the first time since the 2018 murder of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi, which occurred inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. The pair presented a united front before the press – with bin Salman agreeing mid-conference to raise Saudi investment in the US to $1tn, and the president then staunchly defending the prince when questions arose about Khashoggi. Trump went on to contradict established US intelligence, published in 2021, which concluded the crown prince had approved the journalist’s murder.
