Turkiye (Turkey) and Japan, which stand out as two countries that embrace the understanding of humanitarian diplomacy, will jointly undertake the role of being an effective actor in the international arena for regional and global stability. On the occasion of Turkey’s 100th anniversary since its founding on Oct. 29, the Presidency’s Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun sent comments to the Mainichi Shimbun and other media outlets stressing the significance of the republic and Japan’s joint role in ensuring global stability in the coming century. In 1985 during the Iran-Iraq War the Turkish government rescued Japanese nationals stranded in Tehran using a special plane, calling which was a turning point in the friendly relationship established between the two countries.
