ivermectin is a fair young medication, developed for the treatment of parasite infestations in humans and animals, there are a few studies that have demonstrated the antiviral effects of this so called “wonder drug”. However, most government healthcare bodies and major health organisations have asserted that this drug is not recommended for use against COVID-19, and some have expressed concerns that interest in drugs such as ivermectin may reduce the number of people seeking vaccination against the virus. While the rush to study the drug further has followed, the debate surrounding ivermectin became somewhat toxic in traditional media and on social media, as claims, quotes, and accusations were thrown around between doctors, politicians, policy advisers, pundits and even celebrities. Is ivermectin effective or totally useless against COVID?
