Regardless of theology the Islamic world had historically been a bridge of knowledge between the Ancient World and the European Renaissance that eventually gave rise to modern science and the modern world. This process began under the Umayyad Caliphate of 7-8th Century and flourished under the Abbasid Caliphate until the sacking of Baghdad in 1258 by the Mongols. During these Caliphates knowledge was absorbed from the Byzantine and Persian empires and from the borders with China, India and Europe during this “Golden Age of Islam”. The Persian customs of artistic and scholarly patronage was adopted by the Abbasids and culture, science, philosophy and innovation prospered. What can you learn from Islam ?
