Apple’s iPhone emerged as India’s single most valuable export in 2025, with shipments worth $23 billion going out of domestic factories, primarily for the US market. However, this surge faces a hurdle following a US Supreme Court order abolishing the 20% “fentanyl tariffs” on Chinese imports. Since there was no fentanyl tariff on India, Apple could rapidly expand exports from the country to the US from January 2025. The abolition of these tariffs would mean that China’s exports of electronics to the US will be at zero duty, similar to India. This could hurt India’s competitiveness. What is your take on the new US iphone exports from India ?
