Companies race to adopt AI agents for transformation

Artificial intelligence agents are set to fundamentally reshape workplace structures over the next few years, with an overwhelming majority of technology leaders believing that managing AI-powered systems will become a core leadership capability, the growing adoption of AI agents is expected to significantly alter the composition of technology teams. By 2027, digital assistants are projected to make up 36% of core technology teams, compared with 28% in 2025, reflecting an accelerating shift towards human-AI collaboration. As organisations accelerate AI adoption, many are also looking outside their own workforce for specialised expertise. The report found that 90% of technology executives intend to expand partnerships with external providers to support AI implementation. However, it cautioned that greater dependence on third parties also heightens risks related to cybersecurity, governance and data privacy.
