After Meta, Discord accused of failing to protect children online

Governments and regulators around the world are taking strict actions against social media platforms over allegedly failing to protect children online. Discord has now been sued by the Brazilian government over allegations that the messaging platform failed to comply with laws designed to protect teenagers. As per the report, the lawsuit seeks to force Discord to improve several areas of its platform, including age verification, parental controls and content moderation. The government of Brazil is seeking a daily fine of 500,000 reais ($97,099) if Discord fails to meet the required measures. Notably, the legal action comes after Brazil’s data protection authority, the ANPD, suspended Discord’s livestreaming features earlier this month over concerns about the safety of children and teenagers using the platform. Do you think that Meta settlement has opened up a pandox box for social platforms?
