AMD’s $8.2 billion World Labs deal

AMD agreed on 28 September to buy World Labs, the spatial intelligence startup co-founded by Fei-Fei Li, for about $8.2 billion in AMD stock. Taken on its own, it reads as a chipmaker buying talent and a head start in physical AI, and that is how most of the coverage has framed it. Taken alongside what Nvidia did at the start of the same month, when it agreed to buy the open-model platform Hugging Face for roughly $12.9 billion, it looks like something more revealing about the state of the AI industry. The two largest chip companies in AI have each just spent billions on a company that makes no chips at all, and they have bought very different kinds of company.AMD is buying World Labs for about $8.2 billion in stock, roughly 64% above its reported $5 billion valuation in February.  How do you expect AMD stoks to behave in the long term ?
