Google is giving its workplace AI a bigger role with a new Gemini agent that can work not only for an individual employee but also on behalf of a group of people or a specific role inside an organisation.Announced at Gemini at Work 2026, the Gemini agent is being positioned as a single AI system that can answer questions, handle knowledge work, create media and write and run code. Google says users can give the agent an objective rather than explain every step needed to complete it.The agent can take on tasks that would normally require coordination between several people. For instance, if a manager emails an employee asking for the latest project update as a slide deck, Gemini can recognise the task and offer a one-click option to take care of it.
