Evidence on the long-term benefits of antidepressants has been limited in recent years. The long-term use of antidepressant drugs helps to reduce the risk of relapse for people who have suffered from recurrent depression, according to new research. Of the 56 per cent who experienced relapse after discontinuation and the researchers say that some relapses, as well as possible withdrawal symptoms, might not have been severe enough for the person to decide they needed to return to their medication.
