Apple to skip high-end version for next-generation M-series chips

Apple is reportedly breaking away from tradition by skipping the higher-end versions of its upcoming M6 processor lineup. Instead of finishing the M6 family with its expected premium variants (the Pro, Max, and Ultra.Apple has already started ‘taping out’ the M7, which is the crucial phase where a chip’s final design is locked in for production, just six months after doing the same for the standard M6. This accelerated timeline means the entry-level M7 chip is slated to debut in the first half of 2027, followed by the M7 Pro and Max late that year, and a powerhouse M7 Ultra arriving in 2028, he claimed.While Apple has skipped individual variants in the past, this is the first time that Apple is entirely abandoning the premium tiers of a current chip generation to jump to the next.
