iPhone maker Apple said it has hit a record sustainability milestone, with 30 percent of materials used across products shipped in 2025 sourced from recycled content, as the company accelerates efforts to decarbonise its operations and global supply chain.Apple has simultaneously completed its push to eliminate plastic from packaging. All products now ship in fully fibre-based packaging, with 100 percent of wood fibre either recycled or sourced from responsibly managed forests. Over five years, the company avoided more than 15,000 metric tonnes of plastic — equivalent to roughly 500 million plastic bottles. The company is also extending product lifecycles. In 2025, 15.6 million devices and accessories were refurbished and resold. As part of its Earth Day push, Apple is offering customers discounts on accessories for recycling eligible devices through its retail network. Is full decarbonisation practical ?
