Millions of pounds will be invested in bolstering national defences against threats from space under a new strategy from the UK government. An additional £30 million in support is earmarked for SaxaVord Spaceport, situated on the island of Unst, Shetland, at the UK’s northernmost point. The broader UK Space Strategy details £7.8 billion in total funding across the sector up to 2030. Within this, £2.8 billion is designated for the Connectivity in Low Earth Orbit and Skynet defence communications programmes.
