Plastics are a highly durable and widespread inorganic material that takes an extremely long time to degrade and breakdown. Following nearly a century of prolific production and waste mismanagement globally, plastics have become one of the main pollutants that has reached crisis proportions in recent decades. Plastic pollution is destroying the health of wildlife, ecosystems, and even humans around the world, as the ingestion of plastics and micro-plastics has meant that plastic waste is common in food chains. Millions of tonnes of plastics are produced worldwide every year and soft drink producers are some of the most prolific producers of plastic packaging, however companies like Coca-Cola also claim to be at the forefront of tackling the plastic crisis also.
