Huey Long

Growing up in poverty in Louisiana in the late 19th century, Long went on to become a renowned lawyer before eventually becoming governor of his home state in 1928, and being instrumental in Franklin D. Roosevelt election victory in 1932, despite later opposing his New Deal. What followed was a short and controversial political career that came to a screeching halt as Long was assassinated in 1935, just as he was gearing up for his own presidential campaign. Huey Long was an immensely popular and outspoken populist member of the Democratic Party and a critic of the Depression era New Deal. what can Huey Long be remembered for ?
