Antidepressant use has skyrocketed since 1999, leading it to become one of the most popular types of pharmaceutical drugs in the U.S. Approximately one in six Americans on antidepressants, including more than a quarter of those as long-term users, defined as a decade or more of us, as of 2016. However, high rates of antidepressant use among a population don’t always necessarily reveal a depressing reality. What could be the reason why people choose to use anti-depressants if not high depression rates ?
