The Supreme Court on Thursday sounded an alarm over the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in legal proceedings as it flagged a National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) judgment that relied on fake precedents and cases generated using AI.A Bench of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe made the observation while setting aside an NCLT verdict on Essel Infraprojects insolvency after discovering that they had resorted to the use of AI for generating non-existent, fake, and hallucinated citations. The Supreme Court held that it was “misconduct on part of an advocate” to cite precedents generated using Artificial Intelligence. Do you think that AI research is an atomic bomb in the making ?
