Israel’s military chief has vowed a response to the Iranian aerial salvo, which was mostly intercepted, while world leaders have urged de-escalation. Tehran’s first direct attack on Israel, launched late Saturday, was in retaliation for an April 1 air strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus that killed seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including two generals. Iran has hinted it could build a nuclear weapon if Benjamin Netanyahu strikes Tehran’s atomic sites and target Israel’s own nuclear facilities in response.
