It is no secret that we are living in an era of content. Everyone is, in some way or the other, creating content or consuming it. As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly embedded in the way we create and consume information, the line between human and machine-generated content is becoming harder to see.More than one-third of webpages published after the release of ChatGPT showed signs of AI authorship. The study analysed almost half a million English-language webpages collected from the Common Crawl web archive across multiple snapshots over the past five years, including material published before ChatGPT existed. In a random sample of 10,000 webpages collected in July 2026, around 10% showed significant signs of AI authorship.
