WhatsApp periodically updates its minimum requirements to leverage newer operating system features, enhance security, and optimise performance. Older devices, often limited by hardware constraints, struggle to support modern app functionalities like end-to-end encryption, video calling, or new interface elements. WhatsApp will stop working on smartphones running versions running older Android 6. Users will not be able to access WhatsApp on smartphones running Android version older to Android 6. This decision is part of Meta’s efforts to maintain compatibility with newer technologies and also make sure app’s security and functionality. Should updates be optional ?
