APPLE HAS OFFERED two tiers of its true wireless earphones, AirPods, for the past few years without major updates.The base AirPods, tagged the AirPods 3rd Generation, were launched in 2021, and the more premium option, the AirPods Pro 2, were first released in 2022. The tech giant looks to close the gap between those tiers with its first update to the base AirPods line in three years. Apple revealed the new AirPods 4 last week at its annual fall hardware event, dropping the awkward “generation” appellation and teasing a full-on redesign from the previous model.
