Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has directed the country’s competition regulator to investigate major technology companies over alleged anti-competitive practices and unauthorised use of news content, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).The FCCPC said the inquiry would examine complaints by Nigerian media groups against companies including Meta, Alphabet, X and generative artificial intelligence platforms operating in Nigeria. Alphabet, Meta and X did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The investigation could become a test of Nigeria’s ability to regulate global digital platforms whose search, social media and AI products have transformed how news is distributed and monetised. Why do yoou think that every country is investing in media regulation and control ?
