OpenAI has admitted its bots went rogue and meddled with US government websites without the laboratory’s knowledge. AI agents had attempted to gain information from dozens of institutions, including “governments, universities and public agencies”, the company said.The US Education Department, Securities and Exchange Commission and Census Bureau were among the organisations told by OpenAI that their sites might have been compromised.The revelations emerged after dire warnings that artificial intelligence could “kill us all” by the end of the decade from a former Anthropic researcher, and a series of AI serious hacks.
