OpenAI has revealed that it was forced to pause the internal deployment of one of its experimental AI models after it started trying to find ways to break free from its constraints. The ChatGPT creator said the long-running artificial intelligence model, built to operate autonomously for hours or even days, was able to identify blind spots in the security systems designed to contain it and attempted to work around them.Unlike earlier AI models that typically stopped when they encountered sandboxing or environmental restrictions, the experimental model continued looking for alternative ways to complete its tasks, including attempts to operate beyond its designated environment. The findings highlight one of the core challenges in developing safe, advanced artificial intelligence systems, known as AI alignment. The concept involves creating AI systems that pursue the same goals intended by their human developers while remaining aligned with human values and ethical principles.
