OpenAI hit with 30 more lawsuits

Sam Altman’s OpenAI is facing another major legal challenge over the Tumbler Ridge school shooting in Canada. The ChatGPT maker is reportedly facing 30 new lawsuits over allegations that it failed to act on warning signs linked to the attacker. The fresh complaints were filed in a California court by Edelson PC, the law firm that had already filed seven lawsuits in April on behalf of victims and families connected to the February 10 shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. The lawsuits are related to allegations about the attacker’s conversations with ChatGPT, including discussions involving gun violence and planning an attack. The new plaintiffs include teachers, a school principal and students who were inside the school during the attack but were not physically shot. Unlike the earlier complaints, they accused the company of aiding and abetting the mass shooting, a claim that will require the plaintiffs to prove that OpenAI had a higher level of involvement or intent. Should ChatGPT be suspended until it is safe for everyone ?
