OpenAI has introduced GPT-5.5 Instant as the new default model for OpenAI’s ChatGPT, replacing GPT-5.3 Instant. The company says the updated model is designed to improve reliability while continuing to deliver faster responses for day-to-day tasks.The rollout follows the wider launch of the GPT-5.5 family earlier this year. OpenAI had previously highlighted improvements in coding, reasoning and knowledge-based tasks across the lineup, and GPT-5.5 Instant appears to bring some of those upgrades into a faster and lighter version suited for general usage.The model is also gaining more personalised capabilities. OpenAI says GPT-5.5 Instant can use previous conversations, uploaded files and Gmail data through its search tools to generate responses tailored to users. These features are currently rolling out to Plus and Pro subscribers on the web, with wider availability and mobile support expected in the coming weeks.
