Pentagon AI deal with tech companies

The Pentagon’s “Magnificent Eight” AI pact is aimed at securing high-stakes cloud and frontier model capabilities for classified defence networks. In what is seen as a shift towards “AI-first” warfare, the US Department of Defence (DoD) has signed a landmark agreement with seven leading technology giants to integrate advanced AI across its most sensitive networks. This is clearly a move by the US at maintaining a strategic edge over its global adversaries and focuses on what is called Impact Level 6 (IL6) and Impact Level 7 (IL7) environments which is considered as the highest tiers of classified data. These eight companies include OpenAI, Google, Microsoft,AWS, NVIDIA, SpaceX and Reflection AI, and Oracle. This is a signal from the Department of Defense of its move from experimentation to operational deployment. This is also seen as a new framework that moves beyond the previous Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability (JWCC) by specifically focusing on frontier AI models. Do you think that it is the tech companies that will be running the pentagon ?
