Moscow is planning to produce up to 6,000 kamikaze drones in the next two years. In a first phase, which has been running since January, drone parts delivered from Iran are being assembled. In a second phase, Russia wants to equip homemade hollow bodies of the drones with Iranian technology. The drones will be built in the Special Economic Zone Alabuga, a state-run industrial area about 900 kilometers east of Moscow near the city of Yelabuga. Satellite images show that the site was still a wasteland until two years ago. Today there are two huge warehouses there.Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones that Russia has used to fired on hundreds of targets in Ukraine since last summer. The belittling designation cannot hide the fact that the unmanned aerial vehicles, with their 50 kilogram warheads, are weapons that are as feared as they are efficient. Is Russia allowed to “steal” Iranian technology ?
