Samsung bans hundreds of smart TV apps over security risks

Samsung has blocked hundreds of smart TV applications in a recent move, citing that these apps contain residential proxy software after new cybersecurity research found some apps could let users’ internet connections to be shares with outsiders. The findings of the same have been published by Norwegian cybersecurity firm Mnemonic. The firm found multiple apps on Samsung’s TV app store comprising one from the Editor’s Choice section, that packed software capable of turning televisions into residential proxy exit nodes after using granted consent.As for the reason behind banning the applications, the research related to the flagged ones found out that Samsung TV apps included Bright Data’s residential proxy SDK.
