Samsung beats Nvidia to become world’s most-profitable company

Samsung Electronics has overtaken Nvidia to become the world’s most-profitable technology company after reporting a record quarterly operating profit of 89.4 trillion won ($58.6 billion), driven by booming demand for AI memory chips. The South Korean technology giant on Tuesday, July 7 said its preliminary operating profit for the April-June quarter surged 1,810.3% from a year earlier, while revenue reached an all-time high of 171 trillion won.The earnings put Samsung ahead of Nvidia’s previous record quarterly operating income of $53.5 billion for the fiscal first quarter ended April 26. Analysts said the strong results were largely driven by higher prices for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), server DRAM and NAND chips, which are widely used in AI servers and data centres.
