Scientology is a hugely controversial and unique organisation with tens of thousands of members globally and a developed theological doctrine, but a sordid history. Scientology has all the hallmarks of a religion; a core doctrine of principles and rituals, and belief in a divine being that adherents can express their faith in, making it is a faith based religion just as much as any other religion is. Scandals aside, another critique often leveed against the church of Scientology is that it is a front for financial profiteering, however no religion is free.
