SpaceX’s Starship is integral to NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon. The space agency has contracted SpaceX for approximately $4 billion to develop a spacecraft capable of safely transporting astronauts from orbit to the lunar surface. As part of its long-term goals, NASA envisions establishing a lunar settlement at the Moon’s south pole, potentially utilizing the water ice abundant in that region for life support and fuel for future Mars missions.SpaceX conducted a test flight of its Starship rocket on Sunday from Texas. In this fifth test, the company aimed to land the rocket’s first stage booster using large robotic arms. Elon Musk’s vision extends beyond the Moon, aiming to send humans to Mars by 2028. He stated, “Every flight brings us closer to being a multi-planetary species.” SpaceX has invested over 12,000 hours into improving Starship, and the upcoming flight represents a culmination of these efforts.
