Spotify is rolling out built-in messaging, letting you chat with friends right inside the music app. That means you can recommend tracks, podcasts, or audiobooks without hopping to WhatsApp, Instagram, or SMS. Spotify says conversations are encrypted to industry standards. Existing rules around illegal or harmful content still apply in messages. If someone crosses a line, you can report the conversation for moderation review, block the user, or opt out of messaging entirely. Spotify actually tried a similar in-app inbox years ago, before removing it in 2017 due to low engagement. With sharing now central to music discovery, the company is giving DMs another shot, this time integrated directly into the player and friends list.
