The debate surrounding the Hubble constant continues: While many see a growing discrepancy, one astronomer insists there is no such thing.A research team from the USA is convinced that new data from two space telescopes resolve the stubborn discrepancy in fundamental measurements of the expansion speed of the universe. The group led by astronomer Wendy Freedman from the University of Chicago has now determined a value of 70.4 kilometers per second per megaparsec for the so-called Hubble constant – with an inaccuracy of 3 percent in both directions. The issue here is that new measurements are constantly finding values for the expansion speed of the cosmos for comparatively close galaxies that do not match those from the early days of the cosmos.
