The UK government has granted final approval for Sizewell C, Britain’s largest nuclear project in decades, located on the Suffolk coast. The decision follows a funding deal worth over £38bn secured with private investors. The project will be jointly financed by a coalition including the UK government, French energy group EDF – Sizewell C’s developer – Canadian pension fund La Caisse, British Gas parent company Centrica and Amber Infrastructure. It’s set to become Britain’s second new nuclear power station in a generation, after Hinkley Point C in Somerset, and is expected to supply low-carbon electricity to around 6 million homes.Sizewell C will provide over 60 years of clean, reliable energy, boosting the local economy, strengthening energy security, and reducing reliance on hydrocarbons by avoiding 9 million tons of carbon emissions annually. Our investment is made alongside the UK government, EDF, Centrica, and Amber Infrastructure Limited, under the UK government’s Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model. The UK’s National Wealth Fund is set to provide debt to the project. Do you think that Nuclear plant is the way to go if we were sustainable energy and future ?
