its founding the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) has been a nationalised centralised health body, but the Conservative Party’s ‘Health and Care Bill’, which UK parliament are currently voting on, could change that, proposing the break up of centralised organisation in favour of Integrated Care Systems (ICSs). These independently run ICSs will be established to take responsibility of planning and implementing regional health services in separate areas of public health such as GP surgeries, hospitals, mental health trusts, with the possibility of private companies stepping in to bridge the gaps. The health secretary, Sajid Javid, claims this will enable local health and care leaders to seek innovation in healthcare and a more regional approach to the country’s health needs, however campaigners have argued that the bill will encourage of rationing of care and aid privatisation through the back door. Are the Tories privatising the Nation Health Service?
