Total ban on gender reassignment surgery in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly used attacks on transgender rights, as well as LGBTQ people in general, to claim that the West has lost its moral compass and to further justify its aggression against Western-backed Ukraine. A new bill prohibiting gender reassignment has passed its first reading in the Russian lower house. It’s a further attack against LGBTQ rights in Russia. Rhetoric coming from Russian lawmakers has framed the crackdown as an existential fight against the influence of Western liberal values. Is being gay genetical or just a condition that develop over time due to the surrounding environment ?
