Earth’s core doesn’t rotate in sync with the rest of our planet, but instead spins faster at times, and at others reverses direction. Inside to outside, Earth consists of a solid inner core surrounded by a liquid iron outer core, a thick rocky mantle, and then the thin crust and atmosphere where life exists. At more than 6,300 kilometers beneath the surface, the inner core is inaccessible, and geoscientists must infer its properties and behavior through indirect measurements and its effects. Does the earth spin or rotate ?
