A “war-ready” weapons dump is being built for the US Marine Corps in Victoria as concerns grow for the ability of allied forces in the Pacific to survive a Chinese missile “first strike”. The United States navy has reportedly allocated $42 million to build “critical forward provisioning” warehouses and offices in Victoria as part of a $A700 million plan to distribute weapons, ammunition, equipment and spare parts outside easy reach of attack. But also close enough to be accessible in the event of an emergency. The US Marine Corps, in particular, has moved to overcome this perceived vulnerability by scattering its assets into more, smaller stockpiles throughout the Pacific. Is the United States anticipating a war with China ?
