US may start reviewing AI models before release as concerns grow

The US government is considering a major shift in how it handles artificial intelligence, with discussions underway about reviewing new AI models before they are released to the public. For years, the approach had been largely hands-off. But that may be changing. The idea is to look at how new AI systems are developed and whether they meet certain safety standards before being widely released. One option being explored is a formal review process, where models could be examined by the government ahead of launch. This wouldn’t necessarily mean blocking new technology, but it would give authorities early visibility into what these systems are capable of.Officials are concerned about what could happen if highly advanced AI tools were used for cyberattacks or other harmful purposes. There is also growing interest in whether such systems could be used for defence or intelligence work. Do you think that AI regulation is long overdue ?
