Wells Fargo bared from leaving China

Wells Fargo has suspended employee travel to China after a senior banker at the firm was barred from leaving the country, Chenyue Mao, an Atlanta-based managing director at the firm who was born in China, was hit with an exit ban after she entered the country in recent weeks. Wells Fargo, which has employed Mao since 2012, said it was working to ensure her return “as soon as possible.The US does not really have the equivalent concept of an exit ban, although persons subject to criminal bail conditions (e.g. 18 U.S.C. § 3142(c)(1)(B)) can be prohibited from travel and those behind on child support payments (42 U.S.C. § 652(k)) or those with large IRS delinquencies (26 U.S.C. § 7345) can have their passports revoked. Could the China (CCP) be looking to another round of hostage diplomacy?
