Washington does not diplomatically recognise Taiwan, but it is a key partner and major weapons provider to Taipei. It recently passed a multibillion-dollar military aid package aimed at countering Beijing in the region. Taiwan is also a major player in the semiconductor industry, producing the majority of the advanced microchips needed to power the global economy. Donald Trump has suggested he would be reluctant to defend Taiwan from a Chinese invasion because it is 9,500 miles away and “took our chip business”. Do you support Trump’s sentiments ?
