If you spend enough time on X, you have probably noticed a strange pattern. A viral clip appears online and suddenly, dozens of large accounts are posting the exact same video within minutes. Sometimes the original creator barely gets any attention, while repost pages collect millions of views and ad revenue. Now, the Elon Musk-owned platform appears to be stepping in. X says it is introducing new measures aimed at limiting what many users describe as the platform’s “copycat economy”, a system where repost accounts rapidly recycle content from smaller creators to profit from engagement. The biggest change involves how impressions are distributed. Earlier, repost accounts often benefited massively from engagement, sometimes even outperforming the person who originally created the content. Under the updated system, X says the original creator will now receive the majority of impressions and visibility. Do you think that sharing is caring for the creators ?
